Spent all day with health plans, employers, coailtions, consultants defining the value we all see in eValue8. Tomorrow, we explore how eValue8 is even more relevant because of health reform. Never left the hotel today, so best I can do is a picture of a roof top garden from my hotel room. A bit of nature in downtown Chicago!

Attended Healthy Memphis Common Table "First" Annual Meeting today..inspired by Jan Young's challenge to define what we mean by "one of America's healthiest cities" & thankful for our Board and CEO!!
Was at the U of M Holiday Inn interviewing a faculty candidate and ran across these hotel rooms made out of room key cards. Not sure if you could sit on the furniture, but I didn't want to find out that I shouldn't!
Great morning on U of Memphis campus interviewing candidates for School of Public Health faculty..clock tower is so new it still keeps perfect time!
MBGH is working with Harvard School of Public Health & Harvard Business School to address health & economic issues in the Mississippi Delta. MBGH loved the 35th Annual Catfish Festival this weekend in Belzoni, the Heart of the Delta.

The Peabody lobby looked great when I attended the Diabetes For Life reception kicking off their national convening of Merck Foundation sites...So proud of Memphis hosting this event and shining through the work of Memphis Healtlhy Churches and Healthy Memphis Common Table.
On U of M campus twice on Monday..in the morning serving on School of Public Health faculty search committee..that night lecturing in the Health Administration Program. I am continuously amazed at the University, its faculty, and its students. Go Tigers!
Attended the inaugural Univ of Memphis Health Law & Policy Forum at the new law school today..beautiful building...great presentations from Memphis' best health lawyers (including MBGH's member Baker Donelson)..great panel discussion with CEOs of Baptist, Methodist, St. Francis, St. Jude..plan to go next year!!
Ran across this great 1800s building on Tennessee St. as I was downtown visiting with MBGH members & focusing on the health of Memphis!
Met with Methodist Healthcare March 8 and learned that the entire system should be up on CPOE by summer 2011. Congrats Methodist!!
Attended annual Mercer National Survey of Employer-Sponsored Health Plans update.Great information on what employers are doing to keep benefit costs under control.
Met Feb 25 at U of Memphis moderating panel of CEOs from Baptist, Methodist, St. Francis, UTMG & the next morning helped to build the Ph.D. program in Public Health. The new buildings are impressive. Next pretty day, go for a walk on campus & be proud of our university!
Loved the view from the Baker Donelson Bearman Caldwell & Berkowitz offices while there on Feb 18 discussing how to leverage employers to create a culture of health for Memphis.

Sleet,snow, ice could not keep Memphis Medical Society from having their Annual Meeting & induction of Board Members on January 30, 2010. MBGH was a proud sponsor & values our relationship with MMS.

In Nashville for the TN Health Information Committee & AF4Q Health Plan Advisory Committee meetings. Advocating for increased availability of information on cost & quality of care in Memphis & TN.
Enjoyed a lobster bake on Great Diamond Island outside Portland, ME while attending NBCH Board Meeting and NHLC meeting focusing on the medical home. Great discussion on a model for physician practice transformation & payment reform!
A great picture of the "patchwork quilt" of Arkansas farmland as I left Memphis bound for my last Leapfrog Board meeting in Chicago. I know term limits are good, but it is sad to roll off the Board. Thank goodness we are still tied at the hip with Leapfrog through our Regional RollOut!
Just back from speaking at AHIP Institute 2010 on Value-based Insurance Design with the one & only Mark Fendrick, MD! Wish I could have stayed to hear President Clinton, Senator Bill Frist, & others. Great conference focusing on health plans.

Worked out of the DCA SkyClub before heading to NCQA for first Purchaser Advisiory Council Meeting.
The AHMIA/AHRQ meeting was in the shadows of the Masonic Temple in Alexandria, VA..telehealth, HIT, and HIE hold real promise for improving care & efficiency for rural providers & rural patients!
Day trip to Nashville for the HIP-TN Summit where we worked hard on the sustainability model for statewide HIE!!! If any group can solve this issue, WE CAN!!! Great group lead by Vicki Estin of C3!!
Flew to MEM from DCA from "my new gate" #16. Mike Cates and Jerry Thompson from Memphis Medical Society were there too after being on the Hill all week. I think I saw Desi Franklin from Baker Donelson, and I heard Sara Hall with MBGH & MSCAA was there too. Memphis was well represented in DC!! Oh, and the clouds were beautiful as the sun was setting...
Great Leapfrog Regional Roll-Out meeting in DC. March 2-3. Heard how the University of Marlyand Medical Center has created a culture of safety; how The Alliance in WI has set ambitious goals for statewide improvement on LF measures; how Virginia Business Coalition on Health is leveraging the Consumer Report's article to engage hospitals; how to use social media to broaden our impact. Can't wait until tomorrow!!
In San Antonio Feb 8-12 for the IBI/NBCH Health & Productivity Conference..great employer case studies documenting decreased health care costs & increased productivity by engaging employees!
Just returned from DC...I miss the old NWA terminal, but the "new" one is nice. Great meeting with 20+ communities focusing on collaborating across the city to improve cost efficiency and quality of care...MBGH's presentation on engaging employers got high marks!!

Flying past downtown Nashville on my way home from the "Preparing for a New Healthcare Landscape" meeting. Meeting tied health reform, value-based benefits, comparative effectiveness, cost-efficiency and medical practice transformation all together. Great ideas garnered for possible implementation in Memphis!!!
Great NBCH Board meeting in Phoenix today. Aggressive strategy to build our member coalitions' capacity including MBGH!!! New employer tools to increase eV8 effectiveness; new tools to implement value-based purchasing best practices!!!
